Quick example and when to use it
For example, 18% of 250 is 45 because 250 × 18 ÷ 100 = 45. This is useful for discounts, tips, commissions, taxes and any situation where you need a share of a base amount.
If you want to measure how much one value increased or decreased compared with another, use a percentage-change calculation instead; that is a different question from finding a percentage of an amount.
